Project Description

The Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana was granted federal recognition in 2019 and has a mission to “[work] together to provide services to foster development, growth, innovation and sustainability of the Little Shell Tribe.”

The Little Shell Housing Needs Assessment project, which is funded in part by grants from the Montana Healthcare Foundation and Enterprise Community Partners, will involve surveys, focus groups, key informant interviews, and community meetings. These data collection efforts will be coordinated by Big Water Consulting and designed & developed in a collaborative manner with the Little Shell Tribe to allow for partnership development, collective capacity-building, and the generation of an individualized Little Shell Housing Needs Assessment dataset.

The design of this Tribal housing needs assessment project will also be informed by lessons learned from the needs assessment project recently completed on the Flathead Indian Reservation by the Salish & Kootenai Housing Authority.
