Project Details

The Klamath Tribes of Oregon are conducting a Tribal Community Needs Assessment. The assessment, headed by the Klamath Tribes Housing Department in partnership with Big Water Consulting, aims to collect up-to-date, accurate information about the characteristics, needs, and priorities of the households and communities served by the Klamath Tribes.

As a tribe with a large service area, tribal leadership wants to better understand not only which services and programs the membership uses and could offer, but where these services and programs should be located to best serve the membership including outside of the immediate service area. Tribal leadership will use this data to inform strategic planning and prioritize community needs and concerns in the development and delivery of programs and services.

Who can take the survey?

If your household was one of the randomly selected tribal member homes in and around Beatty, Chiloquin, and Klamath Falls, you will be visited by a field staff member in an orange vest and ID badge to deliver a doorhanger with your household's unique survey code.

Since this is a household survey, each household should only complete ONE survey. During this survey, you will have the opportunity to tell the Tribes about all of the adults and children who live in your home.

How can I take the survey?

  1. IN- PERSON with FIELD STAFF: Spend 30 minutes to an hour completing your survey from your doorstep with your field staff representative. Field staff will re-visit homes that have not completed their surveys to remind them of your opportunity to use your voice and help your community.

  2. ONLINE: Enter your household’s unique survey code (located on the back of your door hanger) and complete the survey at your own pace. Feel free to pause and come back at any time.

  3. BY PAPER: Contact randee.sheppard@klamathtribes.com to request a paper copy of the survey.

The Klamath Tribes Housing Department will share the results of the survey with the community at the conclusion of the surveying period.

What is a needs assessment?

Needs assessments leverage newly collected data, existing data, GIS mapping, and other analyses to help communities better understand the characteristics, circumstances, priorities, and perceptions of the populations they serve. They are useful in identifying current and future needs and service gaps, supporting data-driven planning processes, and informing realistic options for addressing community needs.

Needs assessments can be comprehensive or focus on a single program area like housing, transportation, healthcare, eldercare, childcare, culture, education, or communications.

At a minimum, needs assessment should bring together:

  • Different data sets (economic and employment trends, community demographics, housing inventory and conditions)

  • Existing policies, history, current plans, and other relevant information

  • Input from various stakeholders and members of the community through surveys, listening sessions, key stakeholder interviews, and other methods of collecting data
